Free Web Proxy Running On Google APP Engine

Monday, March 30, 2009

1. About Google App Engine
Google App Engine is a platform for building and hosting web applications on Google Web Servers. It was first released as a beta version in April 2008. Google App Engine has both free and paid accounts. According to Google, a free account can use up to 1 GB of persistent storage and enough CPU and bandwidth for about 5 million page views a month.

Running free proxy servers is probably not the main use case for Google App Engine but they do exist. I just found two web proxies setting up on Google App Engine. They are so new and still unblocked by filter company. The speed is very fast because they are running on google power server.

2. Google App Engine Proxy 1
This is the first proxy - Link Proxy1, a cool web proxy written in Python. It has a SSL enable option.

3. Google App Engine Proxy 2
The second web proxy running on Google App Engine I found is - Link Proxy2. The web page is written in Chinese. Howerver, using this proxy is really simple.

4. Limitation of using Google App Engine proxy
These proxies are good for web browsing. They are fast and free of use. The limitation is they don't support video sharing sites like youtube. You may also get error while tring to post on forums through these proxies.
